In the late 19th century American jewellery house Tiffany & Co introduced platinum metal in its diamond rings collection. The "low maintenance" metal was an excellent choice for diamond setting due to its strength, pleasant cool-grey colour which remains unchanged and doesn't require rhodium plating, unlike gold. This has long made it an attractive metal for engagement rings and wedding bands.
